A freelance video editor
Bringing ideas to life
I offer professional video editing services. Whether you need a promotional video for a product, a corporate or educational piece, or engaging content to make your website stand out, I can help.
It Starts with an idea..
And grows from there
Below are the video editing services I offer and the process I follow. I can perform all of these roles or only one or two of these roles in any given project.
If you are considering a video or any of my video editing services, then contact me and we can set up a video call. In this call we can get to know eachother a bit. I will want to know what the overall drive is for this video. Why do you want a video? What is it for? Where will you use this video?
We can discuss your business, your competition and other ideas you may have and we can even go and look at some other videos that may be similar to what you are looking for.
I will likely give some ideas at this point because when I have them, I want to share them. I also want to know where your head is at and if I am thinking along the same lines as you are. Then when we finish this meeting, I can start preparing a quote for the project.
During our call, we likely discussed your budget. I can provide a variety of solutions depending on your needs and the resources available.
If you prefer a budget-conscious option, I can prepare a quote that reflects that approach. Alternatively, if you would like to compare a cost-effective solution with a premium option, I can provide both so you can clearly see the difference. I can also present a range of costs that covers both ends of the spectrum, allowing us to narrow it down to a level you are comfortable with.
My quotes outline in detail exactly what is included. If preferred, I can also provide a fixed-cost option so you know upfront what you will be spending and what you will receive. Each quote includes a timeline, and I ask for a partial deposit. Once the quote is approved and the deposit is received, I begin the work
There are many approaches to scriptwriting for video. In some cases, clients provide a general outline, which I then develop into a full script, adapting their content specifically for the screen.
When clients are unsure of what they want, I take time to understand their business and, if needed, collaborate with a professional writer from my network. This writer conducts interviews with the client or key stakeholders to uncover the product, service, or promotion’s core message. Together, we then shape these insights into a compelling script.
I often have a vision for the video before I go to the writer so it is important that we work closely on the script.
To ensure complete clarity on my client’s vision, I often create detailed storyboards that outline the video. These include the script, planned actions, and cutaways. The level of detail is tailored to each client’s needs, and I collaborate closely with them, refining the boards until they are fully satisfied.
At this stage, I focus on organizing all project assets. This may include logging the footage provided or curating clips from my royalty-free stock libraries. I structure the project by creating dedicated folders for video, audio, and graphics, ensuring a streamlined and efficient workflow.
One of my key strengths as a video editor is my background in design. On many projects, the design and editing stages are handled separately, with one person creating graphics and another handling the edit. Because I bring both skill sets, I streamline this process by designing the initial frames in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator and then carrying much of the design work directly into Adobe Premiere during editing. This approach saves time and ensures a cohesive look and feel, which I typically establish before moving fully into the editing process.
I typically edit a short section of the video with sound effects and full graphics to give the client a clear sense of the overall look and feel. This version is known as a ‘rough cut.’
The rough cut provides an opportunity for the client to give detailed feedback, and if adjustments to the direction are needed, this is the stage to make them. While I have not yet encountered a client who wished to change direction at this point, it is important to me that they feel fully confident in the approach. Once the rough cut is approved, I proceed with editing the complete piece.
Whatever was “rough” in the first cut will now be tightened up and b-roll or cutaways will be added. The client will be supplied a full edited piece for final approval.
Because of my background in building websites, I can help advise my clients on the best way to display their videos for online viewing. I will compress and upload the videos for whatever medium my clients want to display their videos on (Youtube, Vimeo, TikTok, Instagram etc). I can also provide a download of the full (non-compressed) video for future use, on request.
